Hi hi hi! Boy oh boy man o mally! Lots of things going on in these parts. mostly the fact that I’m procrastinating on doing some journalling work that feels a little too overwhelming to do. I’m going to go do that because that’s more important than doing this right now.
Started writing a to-do list for next week. . .
Bahaha it didn’t actually feel thaaat long. Feels good to clean up my life, although hard to face. Set a quick little 30 min timer to journal some things and ended up doing a cool 45, not bad Brookhouse.
Okay back to our regularly scheduled programming.
Lots of stuff going on here so I thought I’d share . . .
I started the garden over the weekend! My parents came to visit so I utilized the help I was given to get it done. So far I have sunflower, dill, and basil planted but have started cucumber, spaghetti squash, oregano, thyme, cilantro, mint, onion, carrot, red pepper, orange pepper, jalapeno, chamomile, catnip, and salad mix. I hope to get lavender and celery soon and that’ll be all for this year. I know gardening can become a lot so I’m trying to keep it simple and focus on herbs and grow into a bigger garden with fruit/veg next year! I have a farmer hookup here so I get toms and melons from him, he lets me pick the field at the end of the season! Cool guy.
I made a galette/tart for the first time! Yum! Perfect for summer, this one is mango and blueberry!
I’ve had many garden surprises so far! Some hyacinth popped up(one of gma’s favs), black iris(a friend’s gma fav), a peony bush(one of my favs!), tulips at the start of the season, an orange flowering bush, and a white flowering bush that made really pretty floral arrangements.
The washing machine is . . . in process but I’m genuinely so proud of myself for taking it on. Waiting on some replacement parts to get ‘er done.
The strays are back and one is hanging around a lot, I’ve named him Pepp short for Pepperoni. I’m thinking about getting him fixed and taking him in, any advice on taking in strays is welcome!
The house is coming along and filling up. I received a table and chair set that is now a family heirloom that I’m so very excited to keep for generations. Aesthetics don’t matter when it comes to family history in my book. I also was gifted a bunch of knick-knacks and teapots that were my grandma’s that I’m waiting to fully dig into when I have the space for that type of nostalgia.
Been consistently making food and cleaning products from scratch and with as little waste as possible. It makes me so happy to see my freezer full of scraps to reuse!
I have about 3 art projects going at any given time. Excited about this terracotta painting I’ve been working on, mostly because it dries as if I didn’t put anything on it which feels like a beautiful lesson on impermanence and really challenging perfectionism.
I do have some collages up on my website that are available.
That’s about it I think, been feeling really good and ready to take on life. All of these projects give me a sense of purpose and I hope to allow myself to find self-esteem through them. That’s about the only thing that’s been in the shitter these days, such is life, such is growing up, such is being a lady.
There are a couple of other projects coming up too that I’m very excited to release and share with you. I’ll keep ya posted of course!
I feel the tides shifting around the newsletter I don’t know what that means or what it’ll look like, probably more of the same noodling and such but I’m craving levity right now. I attribute this to it being spring and my internal is matching the season. I’m a buzzing little bee hopping from flower to flower.
Thank you, you mean more to me than you know.
Alex
